Encomium
So, I have this awesome guy, who works quite hard to take care of me (not the easiest job in the world by any standards), would do mostly anything for me (if I throw a tantrum effective enough heh), who makes me laugh, is my best friend, who wants to continue growing old with me, will always pick me up when I’m rock bottom in Mariana Trench (or from PVR after a girl’s day out), who is...

Soul's call for a drastic change
Wallace hanged himself and was found by his wife.  He must have been in extraordinary pain to have done such a thing to a loved one.  No one reading this is a stranger, I’m guessing, to the suicidal impulse, which Jung believed was ‘the Soul’s call for drastic change.’  Sometimes it’s possible to make that change and sometimes we must rely on something much smaller and more immediate.  The...

I’m not incredibly glib, but I’ll tell what I think the Bad Thing is like… . Imagine that every single atom in every single cell in your body is sick … intolerably sick. And every proton and neutron in every atom … swollen and throbbing, off-color, sick, with just no chance of throwing up to relieve the feeling. Every electron is sick, here, twirling offbalance and all...

Maxistentialism: Commencement Address by David... →
I’m posting this (again). It’s been on my mind, especially since our own graduation speaker was, to say the least, underwhelming. If you haven’t read this, I can’t recommend it highly enough - these are the values that I try to live by. There are these two young fish swimming along, and they…

The End
[JACK closes the coffin.]
CHRISTIAN: Hey kiddo.
JACK: Dad?
CHRISTIAN: Hello, Jack.
JACK: I don't understand. You died.
CHRISTIAN: Yeah. Yes I did.
JACK: Then how are you here right now?
CHRISTIAN: How are you here?
[Beat.]
JACK: I died too. [Starts to cry.]
CHRISTIAN [comforting]: It's okay. It's okay. It's okay, son.
[They hug.]
JACK: I love you, Dad.
CHRISTIAN: I love you too, son.
JACK: Are you real?
CHRISTIAN: I sure hope so. Yeah, I'm real. You're real. Everything that's ever happened to you is real. All those people in the church - they're all real, too.
JACK: They're all dead?
CHRISTIAN: Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some of them long after you.
JACK: Well why are they all here now?
CHRISTIAN: Well there is no now, here.
JACK: Where are we, Dad?
CHRISTIAN: This is a place that you all made together, so that you all could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time you spent with these people. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you.
JACK: For what?
CHRISTIAN: To remember, and let go.
JACK: Kate - she said we were leaving.
CHRISTIAN: Not leaving, no - moving on.
JACK: Where are we goin'?
CHRISTIAN: Let's go find out.

LOST Finale
maxistentialist: Whether or not you enjoyed last nights’ finale probably comes down to whether or not you enjoyed LOST as a character drama or a mystery about a crazy island. Here are my thoughts on loving LOST, the mysteries unanswered, and the quality of the finale. Spoilers ahead. Read More
